Hollie Steel Record Deal – Setting the Record Straight

There seems to have been some confusion about whether Hollie has a record deal or not, some of you know that Hollie has been in a recording studio, or perhaps read the entry on Wikipedia, and assumed that Hollie already has a record deal. This is not the case. Nina Steel has been kind enough to bring us up to date about the current situation.

There seems to be a little misunderstanding regarding Hollie and a recording contract. Hollie up to date hasn’t signed a record deal, we as a family are contacting as many classical labels as possible over the next month in the hope that someone will come forward.

In the meantime Hollie is spending some time in a local recording studio getting 12/13 songs ready, just in case a deal doesnt happen. If she doesnt receive any offers we will endeavour to release the 12/13 tracks ourselves on a smaller scale.  Hopefully this should be before the end of this year.

Hollie had her first day in the studio last week and she had a wonderful time. We hope you all like the songs she’s choosen.

lots of love
Nina and Hollie xx

As you know, I was lucky enough to hear Hollie’s recorded version of Nessun Dorma and I cannot believe that she won’t be signed up as soon as the record companies hear it – it was amazing.

Thanks for the update. Really really looking forward to hear the songs!

  • Wouter says:

Thanks for the info, good to know we have something to look forward to. I’m rather curious what songs Hollie is working on now, could you please tell us? However, if is is supposed to be a surprise I’ll understand if you won’t tell us.
I’m impressed to hear Hollie sings Nessun Dorma*, that’s a big song for any professional singer, let alone an 11-year old.
If you decide to do a small scale release of a CD I’ll buy one, it may very well become a collectors item later. However, I would be surprised if no record company wants to make an offer to Hollie, I’ve been looking around on Youtube, and singing girls of Hollie’s quality are very rare indeed.

    Best wishes,

    Wouter

    * NB: for those who don’t know it: Nessun Dorma is the song Greg Pritchard sang at his audition, and Paul Potts won BGT in 2007 with this song.

I had really not heard of Hollie until I did a you tube search for the Phantom of the Opera song “wishing you were somehow here again” and her video was listed as one of the choices.

Hollie really has vocal ability that should take her not only into a recording contract but into theater/opera. In one of the clips I saw a very short clip of her on stage in a show. Does a longer clip exist? If so posting it would be appreciated. Also, I can’t wait until we can enjoy more of her via the recording studio.

I wish for her only the best. Her talent is amazing! The record execs are crazy if they let this talented, beautiful girl slip through their fingers. Happy to sign the petition and look forward to more updates.

    Dave

It’s just a guess but I wonder if Hollie hadn’t planned to sing Nessun Dorma at the semis? When Pritchard sang it the producers suggested something else which ended up being Eidelweis which was not Hollies 1st choice.

    Dear Nina,
I was dismayed, surprised and disappointed to read that there has been no offer to Hollie of a recording deal from one of the major recording companies. I do hope one of the classical labels has the good sense to take her on. If you do end up releasing Hollie’s debut album yourselves then here is some advice I can offer as a result of my experience in releasing my latest EP “This One Flies” + “True Hearts” (and others), on my own private label under my pseudonym Robin Abalone.

You might consider marketing the CD through Amazon Advantage. Unfortunately the information they give on their discount rates is a bit confusing. To be sure you know how much of the retail price they keep and how much you get, be sure to e-mail an enquiry to get them to confirm it before committing yourselves. I was quoted 60% for them and 40% for me, profitable enough for an album but I would probably make a loss on sale of my EP CDs.

If making the album and-or individual tracks available through MP3 download, do this. A day or two after uploading the MP3 files to the distribution company, phone them to make sure that they have received them. Do NOT rely on any confirmatory e-mail that says the files have uploaded successfully!! Ditto Music are distributing my EP to all the well known MP3 retailers. I can’t say how good they are yet. My EP won’t be available till 17th September at the very earliest.

Registering the recorded material through PPL is essential if sales are to be recorded for chart compilation and any other statistical purposes. You have to fill in a form which a program on your computer generates. Filling this in can be a baffling and confusing process so do not hesitate to contact me if you feel like giving up. It’s not too difficult once you get the hang of it.

    With best wishes, Robert.

Wow … I am suprised that Hollie hasn’t been approched already by ALL of the major record companies … I would have thought they would put up a fight for her signature. After all … she is the best singer in the world!

Well … it probably shows how little I know about the music industry.

I hope Hollie gets a record contract soon as she deserves, but if not, I am very glad to hear that you are nevertheless going to release a cd before the end of the year. As I have said before, I can’t wait to hear Hollie sing again.

ps. I would also love to know what songs Hollie is planning to sing on the cd.

  • S says:

Will her CD’s be sold in the US? I would love to buy one. I’m keeping my fingrs crossed that she gets a record deal!

  • Scott says:

Hi Mandy, hope you and your family are well.
As Kevin has probably told you I have done a new website for Hollie. Hope you like it.

I would like to thank Hollie and her mum Nina for allowing me to use their pictures on my website. They have both visited the website and have told me that they liked it.

Also thankyou to Kevin for being the first person to sign the guestbook

    The website address is http://holliesteelfans.co.uk/

Glad you enjoyed your day with the Steel family Mandy, looking forward to hearing Hollie’s version of Nessum Dorma, fantastic song. Does she sing it in Italian????

    Cheers

    Bye for now

PS thankyou for helping me before Mandy

    • HollieSteelFan says:

Great site, Scott, well done :-)

      • Scott says:

        Hi

Thankyou Mandy, Some people were not sure if I had taken Hollie’s pictures, which I can totally understand.

I can say that Hollie said I could use anything on her site for my website and I thank her for that. Just shows what a wonderfully kind person she is.

        Thankyou Hollie x

  • Scott says:

Good luck on the record deal Hollie, I know you’ll get it.

    Scott

    • Scott says:

Thankyou for signing my guestbook Mick Uhl.

To answer your question I think Hollie has chosen her songs for her own album. She said she has been recording in a studio locally. Still think she will get a record deal and there will be no need for it anyway. Think i have a few people at work that will buy her album. Trying to publicise it to as many as I can.

      Bye

      Scott

  • Dieter says:

    Hi,

Getting a record deal may very well need some time, especially in the usually very conservative classical area. Maybe one of the independent labels would help out. Fingers crossed !!!

Mandy, if you like would you contact me? Would have some ideas.

  • Scott says:

Hi Haselmaus, in response to your question a tomcat is a male cat, dont think hollie would keep a tiger at home, would eat her dog.

    Regards,

    Scott

    • Scott says:

      Hi Everyone

Feel free to start a subject in the forum, i would not know where to start.

Mandy shame you are not coming in October, would have been nice if most of Hollie’s fans were there

      Bye

      Scott

I know, I would love to go. But it is too far for me to drive, the train takes 7 hours (14 there and back). The quickest option would be to fly Leeds Bradford to Southampton – but that costs £500!. So, this is what I have decided: Hollie will be doing far more than just this one appearance – I’m hoping that everyone who goes to Bournemouth will share their photos and videos with me so that I can put a huge article together that contains everything.

When Hollie does a performance “up North”, as she undoubtedly will, I will go to that – and then hopefully get the opportunity to share my videos and photos with everyone else as I did when I visited Hollie at her home. This is the sensible thing for me to do, and sadly I am old enough to be sensible :-(

        • Scott says:

HI Mandy, shame you can’t make it, it is a long way to travel and a lot of money to justify when you have a family. On the plus side you could have seen my home town Southampton which has its great bits. Look forward to seeing you at one of Hollie’s performances. Even if it is “up North”. Im still young enough to not be sensible with money.

          Take care

          Scott

        • Haselmaus says:

          Hi Mandy,
my fly from FRA there over Manchester with flybe cost 146,- € there and back (direkt). And I stay in an cheaper hotel in Bournemouth, so it cost not 500L but complete about 300 €.
So I looked now Manchester Southampton cost between 86,-and 150,- €

          • Haselmaus says:

Ok Mandy you are not alone, the whole Family will cost more, ah it is pitty, but ok if you than tell us from the performances and advetures in North England around Hollie

    • Haselmaus says:

      Hi Scott,
you make me laughing, not a tiger from asia. We say in german a housecat with the design with stripes is a Tigerle, tigercat, only the muster design white with grey or red, or Zebra, (tigerhorse).
A cat male is a Kater in german.

    Hi Wouter

Hollie is busy and may still write a blog when she has time, i will not push her though it is up to her and she is very busy at the moment i told her not to panic about it.

    Regards

    Scott

  • Georgi Velev says:

    Dear Hollie,

You are very brave to have chosen Nessun Dorma. It used to be Luciano Pavarotti’s signature song. I know you’ll include songs from the Phantom of the Opera in your CD. It’s so wonderful to have you so that we can think of something beautiful during the storm of the world recession.

    Good luck to you.

    Georgi

Yes Mandy it is a long journey , i will be leaving Edinburgh Waverly at 7:30 then two traln changes later will be arriving in Bournemouth at 2:30 . Im not looking foreward to 7 hours on a train , but at least Sean will have his ds ,i have to get him new games for the trip but it will be worth it .Good luck with the website Scott
    love David

  • David Nisbet says:

Yes ive no doubt Hollie will come back to Scotland. I wasn’t a great fan of Britains Got Talent, i only bought tickets for the tour for Sean to see Hollie . Unfortunately the education authorities would not let the children perform every venue on the tour , so Edinburgh was one that she missed

    love David.

    • Scott says:

Strange, she did Bournemouth twice, suppose they could have dropped one of the ones like that where they went twice.

Britains got talent was the best thing I have seen on tv for years.
      All the finalists were superb.

Hollie was just the stand out person from the followed by Susan Boyle. Hollie was fantastic on the tour and I am happy to say that I have supported her since her audition and wish her all the success in the world. You will make it Hollie.

      Looking forward to Bournemouh

      Scott

  • HollieSteelFan says:

I would never get away with going on my own and not taking Sam and Tomson. But Hollie is just 11, I’m certain she has thousands of events in front of her, some of which will be a lot closer!
