Hollie Steel BBC Radio Interview

Hollie Steel on BBC Radio

Download the Hollie and Nina Steel interview with Stephen Nolan on BBC Radio 5, that took place on August 15th, 2009, by clicking the above link.

In the interview, Hollie and Nina talk about their experiences in the Britain’s Got Talent competition and how Hollie balances performing with her school work. Hollie also talks about the lead up to her breaking down in the semi-final, and how she managed to recover to successfully obtain a coveted place in the final of the competition.

Thanks especially go to Robert Owen and Mick for finding the interview, to Jacke for decoding the interview and uploading it to Mediafire and of course to the BBC for publishing the interview online.

You can also download the interview here.

  • Mick Uhl says:

This is probably not worth a mention but the interviewer was Stephen Nolan not BGT’s Stephen Mulhern. Mandy, you should also include Robert Owen in your thanks as he brought this interview to my attention.

    Thanks,
    Mick

  • Robert Owen says:

Hi Kevin, It is obvious that you and I are of the same mind, that Hollie is the loveliest and most adorable child on the planet, bar none. But, I dare-say you still know some people who disagree with us. Perhaps if you showed them a print of one of my screen captures such as the one below they might have a change of heart. Certainly, I think anyone who could still dislike Hollie after looking at this shot and others close to it in this album has got something seriously wrong with them!

Most of the still pictures of Hollie’s audition performance Of “I Could Have Danced” were taken from the News Of The World Best of Britain’s Got Talent DVD. Copies of this DVD are still coming up on E-bay for around £1.50

Feel free to rummage through my other albums too. You might find my photo history interesting. You’ll realise why I say this if you look through it and read the captions!
    Kind regards, Robert Owen.

  • JackeShan says:

Yeah, I uploaded it because they will remove the interview tomorrow.

Mind you, the lyrics of the song actually go ‘I’ll never know’, not ‘I never knew’.

I’ll never know what made it so exciting. Why all at once my heart took flight? http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/myfairlady/icouldhavedancedallnight.htm

I never knew what made it so exciting just doesn’t make sense in the context of the song. I am sure she perfectly knows the lyrics of the song but she admits she speaks with a strong Accrington accent. Hollie got largely criticized by e-bullies because of her accent.

  • Mick Uhl says:

    Hi Georgi,

Hollie did sing “I never knew” in her audition but she corrected her error and sang “I’ll never know” throughout the live tour.

  • Wouter says:

Very nice interview, good that we can keep it here on the website, even after the radion station pulls it off the internet. I especially liked the part when Hollie said “everybody says I’m beautifull” From her tone of voice it was clear that made her intensely happy, she probably hasn’t heard it very often in the past.
Robert, the images you took from Hollie’s videos are really good!

  • JackeShan says:

Joshua just said that Hollie is recording her album right now in Manchester ! :D

  • Mick Uhl says:

Congratulations Hollie on beginning your very first album. I’m sure all of the contributors at this fansite are very, very excited about this great news. You have now gone a long way toward fulfilling your aspirations of becoming a professional singer, having your own CD, and having everybody know you.

I wonder? Did Hollie sign with Song BMG, another company, or will this be a private production? If she hasn’t signed with Sony, did Simon Cowell let the BGT license elapse before BTG’s September expiration date? If she has signed with a label, why record in Manchester and not London?
(I guess the only way that Hollie can begin a CD now would be that she did sign with Simon.)

Another question just popped into my mind. Has Joshua registered to audition for BGT 2010? Is he planning to do something distinctive this time? I know Simon and the producers quickly tire of seeing the same kinds of acts no matter how good they are. They like original performances. (How else does one explain the advancement of Nick Hell over someone like Joshua who has far more talent?) I read that last year over 82,000 contestants performed in the preliminary auditions and only 450 or so were selected by the producers to proceed to the next round of taped auditions in front of the judges. This has to be the great hurdle to winning and not moving on to the semi-finals or finals. I wish best of luck to Josh and hope he can progress, at least, to the televised auditions.

Anyway, this is a tremendous achievement for you, Hollie, and I’m really looking forward to listening to your favourite songs.

  • Georgi Velev says:

Having been a violin player myself, I know it’s a bit complicated to organize a whole symphonic orchestra (>15 musicians) in a short time and make them learn their parts to many songs. Through my communication with Hollie on FaceBook I got the impression she (as of August 21st) is still undecided on which songs she will sing for a CD she might do (note the word ‘might’ – a total uncertainty). It comes a bit of surprise that a week later she has already got a recording contract, a song list, an orchestra and everything else set up in order to record a CD.

But what do I know! There are so many proficient musicians in England that it could be quite possible for them to learn and rehearse all those songs in a short time. Kudos!

Go Hollie, and may music be with you! :D
