A nice quiz indeed. The only question I can’t answer is about the cat. I knew of a dog. Is the cat a new acquisition?
Regarding your last question, I think had not she fallen apart in the semi the 3rd or 4th place would have been justified. However, in my book she’s the first celebrity whose live performance I am going to attend.
Georgi
The cat looked to me like he’s been around for a while. A lovely, soft and affectionate animal. I love cats
I don’t!
Cats are the only animals I can’t get on with. My Father’s got a dog (actually, she got him as she, a white stray dog, entered the flat quite trouble-free some 15 years ago) and we love her very very much.
Regarding the question about the cat, I am going to go with ‘Mozart’ because they are the least likely to have given that name to their cat.
Perhaps Jason would be very glad if he had the time to replant the garden. Their kitchen seems to be OK from the pictures I saw.
Georgi
hey mandy, i dun c any red backgrounds or green backgrounds? does my comp got some prob?
No, your computer is fine. I have added some explanatory text that gives the correct answer to each question after you submit the text. All you will see is your original answer highlighted, which you can compare with the correct answer. Based upon your score, the quiz will give you a rating.
thanks!
This quiz is a nice idea Mandy, and it is also a fair one.
You’ve visited the Steel family, so you could have come up with questions like: how many teddy bears does Hollie own, what is under her bed, what’s Hollie’s middle name and who is her best friend at school. There would have been no way for us to know those answers, but the answers to your quiz are all here somewhere on your site.
Except the last question of course. I’ve been given some thought earlier what would have been a fair result in the BGT final, the 3.9 % Hollie got did not do her justice at all.
Of the acts that got more votes, I think she should have done better than Aidan, who did not improve himself compared to the semifinal. The same goes for Julian, a very good sax player, but for a professional music teacher it was pretty lame to repeat his audition. Susan also repeated her audition, while Hollie was the only one who did a new and much more difficult song. She should have gotten more credits for that. Whether Susan or Hollie has the best voice is a matter of taste, and a lot of people may have voted for Susan because she doesn’t have much chances left, while Hollie still has her whole life in front of her. So Susan versus Hollie will be very close. I don’t think Hollie could have taken votes away from Stavros Flatley, because their act was the only funny one, and people who like a good laugh will all have voted for them. Diversity was very skilled in dancing, and also creative and entertaining, with three different routines. They would have been very hard to beat, especially because this kind of act is more popular with young people than musical songs.
So without the semifinal incident, which turned a lot of people against Hollie, I think she defenitely would have made the top three.
Great idea Mandy
Only got one wrong, how old was Hollie when she started singing?
Should have known that really.
Scott
I got 2 wrong, the place where she lives & the age that she started singing. The last question i put 1st place. I agree with Wouter. I also heard through her radio interview that she didn’t pick the song for the semi, she did pick the song for the final. Her 6th place is too low, i think that she should have been ahead of Aidan becouse he did the same dance over & over again. He must have had lots of little girls that loved him because of his looks. If it wasn’t for that he would of been behind even Shaheen because he’s better looking then Shaheen. I sure hope that Hollie’s CD will be out before the year’s over the sooner the better.
I often wonder why Hollie has made such a profound impression on me. Without doubt, she has an extraordinarily beautiful singing voice, but, then, many other young singers, like Faryl Smith, Hayley Westenra, and Charlotte Church, can make a similar claim. So why am I so much more interested in Hollie? I think it must be her tremendous future promise. For me, she combines the good looks, talent, and drive for excellence needed to be a great success in life. I find it easy to imagine her as Elphaba in “Wicked” on the West End stage, or as a world-renowned recording artist, or as a fashion model, or, even, all three (though perhaps not at the same time unless she is willing to forego much sleep).
But is this all she can be? Perhaps not. I detect another hidden talent that might also bring her fame and fortune when she grows up. Consider Hollie as goalkeeper for the Burnley Clarets FC. Yes, a professional football player! Why do I think that? Just examine a photo recently taken of her in uniform stopping an opponent’s attempt to score. What a spectacular leap she makes to catch the ball and with such flair, too. She certainly displays ability as an athlete as well as a singer and performer.
I don’t think we’ve yet begun to see all of Hollie’s potential. It will be very interesting to watch her as she blossoms into a future star.
(I just felt in the mood to tease Hollie a little about the football. I’m sincere about everything else I said.)
Mick, as far as I am concerned, she made the initial impression on me through the way she communicates – with Ant and Dec when they try to ‘guess’ her act, the way she communicates the message of the song she sings, and later, the fact she talks to her fans through her facebook page.
Of course, you are right that she is very pretty and lovely, slim but very fit (does she practice any sports?). Her talent, her drive, the ability to communicate, combined with her looks and good school education certainly make her unique in the world.
Last but not least she inspires me to put more effort in my musical undertakings.
Georgi
Hi Georgi,
Have you ever read a story that you can’t put down until the finish? I sometimes get so wrapped up in a book that I’ll skip meals and lose sleep in order to get to the denouement. After several weeks of ruminating why I am so fascinated with Hollie, I realized that I see her as a heroine of a real-life novel. In the earlier chapters, she overcame many setbacks and adversities – pneumonia and the consolidated lung, several months stay in hospital, school bullies, the BGT semi-final nerves, the second chance backlash, and the cyber-bullying. In the current chapter, she fights for a recording contract. What will the future chapters hold for her? I find it fascinating to speculate. I just instictively feel that, by the final chapter, Hollie, with all of her talent and potential, will triumph and gain the happy ending that I think she deserves. This feeling is so strong that, sometimes, I have to remind myself that she is a real person and not a fictional character. Because of this attitude, I want to encourage her as much as possible.
I reckon you have given Hollie one of the nicest compliments she has received so far. To be someone’s inspiration for self-betterment should be very gratifying to her indeed.
Mick
Hmmmm, welll, I agree with you up to a point. If you skip your meals and sleep in order to wait for next news from Hollie…
One should remember that it’s the novel of her life, and we have ours so that we should look around ourselves and take the positives and learn from negatives (yes, negative experience is sometimes better than a positive one).
That being said, I don’t see anything extraordinary in Hollie – she can’t fly, can’t operate a submarine – no – she’s quite a normal girl with a strong penchant for music, perhaps a bit shy but unique in her way and able to impress both good and ill hearted people. Music is a business where only the best of the best survive and she’ll always have to prove she’s the best. But there’s a large stake she’ll be successful. Or at least, I’d place 1000 UK pounds she’ll be touring the world within one year’s time.
Georgi
Hi Georgi,
I guess I did a poor job describing precisely how I feel about Hollie. I did not mean for you to take my analogy of Hollie’s life to a good book literally. I do not lose sleep or skip meals because of her. What I’ve been trying to do is understand why Hollie intrigues me like no other child singer. As I have already mentioned, I finally decided that it was her vast potential for future greatness that sets her apart from other exceptional singers like Connie Talbot, Shaheen Jafargholi or Faryl Smith. I can easily imagine Hollie having a career to rival Julie Andrews with many music, film, and stage awards to her credit. I can only imagine Connie, Shaheen, or Faryl becoming a grown-up version of who they are now. For that reason, I am particularly intrigued about the events of her life and if she will justify my predictions of her future success. That’s why I find a novel such a good metaphor – one avidly turns the page to find out how the story will come out. That’s all I meant.
One does not have to be extraordinary to be a heroine. Many are normal, ordinary people who are notable by being able to accomplish unexpected things against obstacles placed in their way. In Pride and Prejudice, the whole plot hangs on whether Elizabeth Bennett marries above her station or not. She is considered one of the greatest heroines of English literature. In Hollie’s case, can she eventually win fame and fortune through her own efforts and talent? You are absolutely correct when you describe music as a cutthroat business in which only the best survive. If Hollie succeeds like we both believe that she can then I will call her a heroine.
I’ve given my reasons why I think Hollie appeals to me over and above her extraordinary voice which, I think, we all agree makes her so special. I am curious why the other regulars at this site admire Hollie to the point of being her biggest supporters. Is it just her voice alone?
Mick
M8s, we do not need to analyze what could have happened if …, or worse, what should have happened because it’s a waste of time.
Facts are very simple – the first 4 acts collected 77.8% of the votes. In order to make it to the top 4 Hollie should have scored around 17-18% which is 4 times more than her result.
The so called negative voting was present (like the parliamentary elections) – many people voted vor Diversity against SB, many people voted for the Sax because he was the only act which was not singing or dancing.
One either wins the show, or is a finalist, or is a semi-finalist. It does not matter whether she has finished 2nd or 10th, there is a prize only for the winner and only the winner is remembered in the long run as far as the show is concerned.
From my point of view, all of the 160 000 people who have voted for Hollie represent a market for her CD + (unmeasurable) many people around the globe who were not able to vote (like me). Even if she does not get a recording contract I think she will be able to sell 1000s of CDs, or, with a modest promotional campaign, 10 000s, and a platinum album if she gets a contract.
Georgi
I didn’t know about the cat and forgot about her age when she started singing
Great quiz! I would like to echo Georgi on the marketing potential of a CD and on Hollies’ outstanding ability. She certainly does have that certain quality that sets her apart from the rest. I can’t wait until I can hear her on a professionally produced CD. Guess I had better be sitting down because she sounds incredible on the youtube recordings.

Hi Kevin, The above link only goes to the Facebook home page. Do you have the correct link?
Hi Mandy,
I guess the page ‘Support Our Hollie’ has been closed and they’ve decided to use Hollie’s original page. I have some explanation as to why they did so (management of facebook pages can be a bit tricky with > 500 friends but they seem to have sorted it out).
Another thing that I would like to mention is that Hollie’s got a new manager and agent. This is very good for her family as that guy will relieve the strain off from Jason & Nina about her participation in events, recording & stuff. You can find details on her FaceBook profile, http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000050187358&v=feed&story_fbid=128006574686#/profile.php?id=100000050187358&v=wall&viewas=658176445&ref=nf

To kevin (16):
The website that the first link you gave was awesome!
well it´s the rigth link but if u click on it u have to log in facebook and when u lock in it gets u on ur site u should go on facebook and search for hollie steel offical fanpage,
Yea but I don’t have a facebook. My parents don’t approve of social networks. At least I can still hear about Hollie from this website and two others I found (there’s an article up here about them with the links)
It’s been taken down Mandy. Was Hollie’s official fan page, created to replace her profile page on FB. But her manager/agent seems to have changed his mind and has let her profile page remain for now. Probably because without it Hollie’s fans wouldn’t be able to chat to her. Don’t know why they can’t have both (one official and one personal) Sallie Lax, Shaheen Jaffergholi and Diversity do.
Oh and btw there’s a few more videos I uploaded on youtube including one from the first show I went to in Birmingham.

GREAT new stuff guys. Well done. I would still love to see more of the footage of Hollie in her school plays. The only footage I have see so far is about a 5 second snippet(Annie I think) in the you tube video of her return to school. Perhaps someone who has access to the footage would be willing to make us fans a you tube type clip. I think it would be a great addition to these pages as I know Hollie fans are just as hungry as I am to hear and see more of her. Hollie is certainly an oasis in the desert of mainstream music these days. We love you Hollie and wish for you only the best.
Dave
i need friends on facebook
who of u has got talent and who would let me add him
except the ones i allready have
Hi Kevin,
I just sent you a friend request. I only signed up to Facebook a few days ago, maybe we’ll see eachother there.

In response to the above comment by Mike Uhl concerning whether or not people are fascinated by Hollie because of her singing alone:
At first, Hollie caught my attention just because of her wonderful singing. As I listened to interviews of her and her mother, I found that she was fascinating as an individual as well, what with her somewhat shy responses. Like any other girl her age, at first she would seem your average schoolgirl until you begin to learn more about her personality and unique habits that set each individual apart yet bring them closer together as long as one’s mind is kept open. So no, it is not just her singing that captures my attention, though of course that is just me personally.
In response to the above comment by Mike Url concerning whether or not people are fascinated with Hollie because of her singing alone:
It was Hollie’s amazing singing that caught my attention in the first place. As I listened to interviews of her and her mother, I found that she was fascinating as an individual as well, what with her somewhat shy responses. Like most girls her age, she appears just an adorable, typical young girl that happens to have an amazing voice at first, but as one learns more about her, one finds that like every human being she has her own, unique personality and several traits that set each individual apart yet bring us closer together as long as the mind is kept open. So no, it is not just her singing that is fascinating, but of course that is just my personal opinion.
hey thanx wouter ;D
