Hollie Steel Latest News

Hollie Steel (HollieBeeSteel) and her manager Kane (Urban-Edge) have just been in our chat room and there appear to be a few snippets of news that those of you who couldn’t make it will be interested in hearing:

  • The plan is that Hollie will release two singles prior to the release of her album which is currently scheduled for March.
  • There was a debate about which songs Hollie should consider singing. Hollie herself said that a real opera song such as Nessun Dorma is a perfect match for her voice – which agrees with the overall view of the site poll (albeit from a limited selection of songs) even though we have not yet heard Hollie singing Nessun Dorma.
  • Kane informed us that Hollie’s mum Nina is also an “amazing singer”!!
  • Kane also gave us something else to look forward to – a forthcoming Hollie DVD and a charity DVD which will feature Hollie.

My thanks again go to Dieter for setting up this wonderful chat room, that worked really well.

Good news about the dvd’s i am sure we will all buy them . But we are disappointed that we are not allowed to take videos of Hollie at Bournemouth. We need to promote Hollie to the rest of the world , some people want to see more to be convinced , we all have friends and family that are not Hollie fans yet. Making a copyrighted dvd and being selfish about personal videos is not the way to go about this .
If it was not for all the fans posting the personal videos that they took on the bgt tour to youtube Hollie would not have as many fans . So that is it now if you want to see and hear more of Hollie you will have to buy the dvd , no more youtube clips to promote her .In my personal opinion this selfish action will have an effect on her career kick start.
    David Nisbet,

    • Carmen says:

I agree that youtube is not a very good promotion for Hollie. After all, people who are not fans of Hollie’s yet wouldn’t go look her up on youtube. Maybe she should be interviewed on a television show on a popular tv channel that is broadcast all across the UK to talk about her album, when it’s being released, and maybe even a few of the songs that are on it. I live in America so I don’t know if there is such a show as that, but if there is that would be great advertising and promotion for her.

  • Carmen says:

Thank you for taking your time to meet us in the chat room Hollie. I was IaFan2, by the way. I had fun talking to you and everyone else up there. Too bad my brother booted me of ten minutes early because he didn’t want me talking to strangers.:(

  • Carmen says:

Haha I thought it was funny when Ben got on there and everyone up there greeted him before he could say anything. Hollie was really sweet about everything and always said thank you. It disturbed me when she said that the people from BGT only wanted to make her look cute and never mind how well she sang, but I guess that’s just show biz for you. She said her brother wasn’t very confident about re-auditioning next year for BGT, but I think he’ll do wonderful. I’m sure he’ll get through, unless the people from BGT have gone insane. :)

  • Georgi Velev says:

    Hi there again,

That chat was very entertaining, as always, and revealed many other thingies which I am not going to reveal here. Join the chat and enjoy!

David, I think you still consider Hollie someone who is defenseless and insecure. Look at her – she’s got a manager to look after her promotion and I think Kane does a great job of it. I think he explained why we won’t be able to take our videos @ B’mouth – there will be a film crew making a DVD to sell for the benefit of the ones who suffer from diabetes – now how’s that? Those who suffer from Diabetes are much more important than Hollie herself as long as the outcome of the ball is concerned.

I think Kane will upload some videos of Hollie singing – in the studio or just slideshows or whatever. That’s how I got acquainted with Connie Talbot’s songs – and, unfortunately, dissuaded me from buying her CD. It revealed the obvious truth that Connie is just a small girl who tries at singing difficult pop songs with a limited voice. You see that it is very important what is uploaded to you tube from now on. I’d rather a professionally made video than a crappy & shaky video made by a 100 euro Canon digital camera. A good tripod is the very least you need in order to make a good video and they won’t let you enter the Royal Bath with a one.

    Georgi

  • david-nisbet says:

I agree with you Georgi to a certain extent about too many amateurish shaky videos on you tube . Kane should organise an official youtube channel and have professional videos of Hollies performances made for it . As for the Bournemouth performance yes we are all goin to buy the dvd, and no a personal video is not a cheapskate to avoid buying the dvd, neither is youtube . Rather than just the dvd on my shelf i would also like to have the performance on youtube, that way i could show it to friends , or email it to them rather than having to invite them to my house .
We need Hollies performances on youtube for everyone to see .An official you tube with good videos would justify no more personal videos to be made of her performances.

Thanks to Hollie, her mom and everyone else who made the chat wonderful and informative. Thanks to you too Mandy for making this a truly great site. I look forward to all the updates. Well Done!

  • Mick Uhl says:

I would like to join in on this very interesting video discussion.

On one hand, I agree with Georgi that the diabetes charity should be able to professionally film and sell a DVD of Hollie’s performance to help in the cause. (Very likely, label mates, 2 Grand, will also appear on the DVD along with some other acts willing to donate their performance.) Being diabetic (mild type 2), myself, I have no problem donating to the charity, and would appreciate a professional video of Hollie in return even if home videos of her performance were made available on You Tube.

On the other hand, I support David’s and Carmen’s position that Hollie needs promotion on You Tube as well as on TV and radio, and in the print media. Hollie has not been seen much for over four months now (since May 30th). I discount the live tour since not more than 15,000 people altogether attended. Yes, a lot of home video clips of her tour performances were uploaded to You Tube but so were those of the other finalists. I think Hollie’s videos got lost in the great outpouring. Kane is doing a good job trying to reacquaint the public with Hollie and he has here a golden opportunity to provide something new of her to show the world. One can get a huge amount of free publicity from You Tube with the chance of going viral. Hollie singing “Nessun Dorma” or some other impressive piece might be sufficient for that to happen. It would also inform the public how far she has progressed musically since BGT.

It seems that making a DVD will preclude the release of home videos of the performance on You Tube. Why can’t Kane allow both? I can understand Georgi’s reluctance to buy Connie’s album after seeing an online clip of her first. When I watched her BGT audition, I was impressed with a six-year old keeping in tune but that’s about all. She had no feeling whatsoever for the song. But we’re talking about Hollie and not Connie. Jane Austen never wrote a bad novel and Hollie has yet to sing a bad song, (including I Have Confidence). Hollie is such a brilliant singer, that her nervous and tentative renditions of second chance Edelweiss and Wishing went almost entirely unnoticed by the viewers. I think that seeing Hollie now and hearing her sing again on the internet (even with shaky filming) would greatly impress people and boost sales of the DVD – not hinder them.

    • Carmen says:

Being American, I love it when other people share their views and continue a good debate/discussion, so thank you Mick, and here is my response:

I have family members with diabetes, so I would of course donate to the charity, should I find a way to. But, I would not want the return video to contain just that particular performance of Hollie’s, but also include all her BGT performances, and possibly even a good quality clip of her singing I Have Confidence and Edelweiss with 2 Grand on the tour. That way people would have a good collection of her beautiful voice, and the video would be longer.

If a high quality video of Hollie singing Nessun Dorma, were put on YouTube, it should be one of the promoted videos that show up when you first log on to YouTube, because like I said before, people who are unfamiliar with Hollie would not search for a video of her.

If a DVD were made, I don’t believe it will preclude the uploading of home videos on YouTube, but make them a slightly more pointless, useful only to those unable to gain access to a DVD. On the other hand, if a clip of the DVD were uploaded to YouTube, this would prompt others to buy the DVD out of sheer curiosity and want of seeing the rest of her performance, which will no doubt be stunning.

      • Mick Uhl says:

        Hello Carmen,
I’m American too. I didn’t realize that love of discussion and debate was something peculiarly American. I admit not being very culture savvy only being out of this country a total of two months in sixty-one years. I’ll take your word for it.

I’m glad that Hollie has gotten Kane as her agent. He wants to get her name out. So I’m sure we’ll be able to see a lot of her upcoming performances on You Tube and in DVD. I’m not sure whether a greatest hits DVD of Hollie will put in an appearance anytime in the future, though. That would require negotiation with one of Simon Cowell’s companies to accomplish.

I do expect to see most if not all the Bournemouth performances on the Charity DVD not just Hollie’s.

If you want a professional video of Hollie’s BGT audition of “I Could Have Danced All Night”, I highly recommend obtaining a copy of the Britain’s Got Talent, Best Of The Auditions DVD. It was given away last May in one of the Sunday editions of News Of The World. It shows Hollie, Stavros Flately, Susan Boyle, Shaun Smith, Jamie Pugh from the 2009 competition plus George Sampson, Paul Potts, and Escala from previous series. The quality of the video is excellent. Robert Owen recommended it to me and, in turn, I’m recommending to those who haven’t access to British newspapers. It is still available on Ebay at low cost. Don’t buy it however unless you can play region 2 videos as it won’t work with region 1 (North American) DVD players.

        • Carmen says:

Thank you for letting me know about the BGT DVD Mick. I didn’t know they made one. I don’t think a love of discussion and debate is something particularly American, by the way. I enjoy observing communities and through my observations I have concluded that people exchange opinions more often than they realize, and enjoy themselves while doing so. For example, though it was not previously stated aloud, you and I were and still are having a friendly exchange of opinions right now, discussing DVD’s of Hollie’s performances. Having never traveled outside of America, although I greatly wish to do so, I could not come to the conclusion that it is only Americans that enjoy exchanging opinions, though I could say that Americans do, because I have been within many different American communities.

Whoops, I forgot a zero. I should have said 150,000. Which is still a small percentage of GB’s 61,000,000+ population – just one quarter of one percent.

    Carmen,
Hollie had an exclusive contract with Syco (BGT) until the end of August. Maybe I’m wrong but it’s not likely current projects can be combined with BGT & Tour performances. I’m disappointed Syco didn’t produce a quality DVD of the tour, seems like it would’ve sold with all the sell outs & extra shows they added on to the end of the tour.

  • david-nisbet says:

I would be interested to know how many of Hollies fans came across her by accident on youtube. That would make an interesting poll

How did you first hear about Hollie

    A , On Britain’s Got Talent

    B , Through a friend

    C , On Youtube

    D , Other

Obviously Britains Got Talent will have the highest percentage, but the youtube percentage may be quite surprising

How many of the fans here first saw Hollie on youtube . i know of quite a few .

    • HollieSteelFan says:

      Ok, good idea David, thanks!

    • Haselmaus says:

It was the week before Pfingsten, my horse Monamie was died in April and I had time fore computer or TV, I have heard about Susan Boyle, she it in my age, and wanted look it in computer, or I was in youtube and saw in the Front first page her picture. I klicked on it saw BGT, and the Edelweiss song appeared, the second, it catched me so saw more from Hollie, the first I saw her ears. Nice fice Gesichtchen rosa Suit.
I saw more saw some days later Pfingst Monday the “Whishing” song and the 1 Edelweiss and all. And wrote in google “Hollie Steel” found Mandys Fanpage here, and the page from BGT direct there was the adress, Town, Region, School, I wrote her a letter “be not sad, you sing better than my choir, I know how easier it is to meet the sound to deep as the note is written.”
And the fans are so toll anyone wrote again here in the page, it go on continued…. Jason, Nina the direct Family, than Hollie
it continued, slowly the child shall also have time to play something…

  • Wouter says:

I read about Hollie on an online Dutch newspaper, which announced a girl who could beat Susan Boyle as winner of BGT. Then I followed her on Youtube. As a Dutchman, I could not see BGT directly.

  • david-nisbet says:

    thanks mandy.

  • Haselmaus says:

I wrote it still on another place think by Jasons thema:
There was a small Girl Joy in Germany , their Family made a Video on youtube with a song: “Schnappi das kleine Krokodil.” I did n’t know how long it was in youtube:
Suddenly was that in the charts! because 1.000.000 people which have heard it and wished it in the Radiosender, than it come in TV, in more than one shows Saturday evening, Sunday evening.
So also works it too if people see something in youtube wish it in Radio! If there are the first Single than wie can send one in our favorit Radiosender, and wish it. Some will hear it and wish it again.
If something it good, and Hollie it good special as we this night read from Kane after Hollie was away, than will it work as Ohrwurm. Think on Paul Pott, his song was N.D. so I am not so favorite for this song because also if Hollie sings it, all think not on her but on Paul Pott. I want to hear a song what only she keep in mind our Holliebee!

    Haselmaus

    • Wouter says:

Haselmaus, I heard before that the German word for a song or jingle you cannot get out of your head is Ohrwurm (earwig for the Brits). I find it one of the funniest wordd in the German language, which has a lot of funny words.

      Wouter

  • Joe Culbert says:

Oops! I checked BGT direct & actually it was Youtube BGT. People were talking about Susan so I checked out BGT. A little girl was dancing in her tutu so I went to the fridge & heard someone singing. I thought it was the next act but it was the same little girl & she was terrific.
Semis, finals & tour, been a fan ever since.

  • Georgi Velev says:

On Youtube while following BGT. So my answer is between A and C but I think it qualifies for a)

You should change C to “How many have found out Hollie through a search on YouTube”.

    • HollieSteelFan says:

I have just changed this to “On Youtube” which hopefully will cover all eventualities, Georgi. I’m guessing the most frequent way of coming across Hollie “randomly” on YouTube would be from finding Britain’s Got Talent videos of Hollie after searching for Susan Boyle, as it was Susan who received the most worldwide media attention.

      • Georgi Velev says:

        Allright, Mandy,

The truth is that I was following a youtube account which was uploading full episodes of BGT and I had been watching them from no 1.

I guess most of the answers will be ‘youtube’ as BGT was/is broadcasted only in GB.

In order not to mess with the statistics, I am going to pick Youtube.

  • DaveHyatt says:

I personally googled Phantom of the Opera in late July and “Wishing” by Hollie in BGT came up. After listening to that it brought up most all of Hollie Steel related video. I consider it one of the luckiest days of my life. Now I can’t wait for each new song clip, interview or slide show. If there were more youtube clips of Hollie, even if its a short one of her singing any classical and/or opera song, would give her more exposure. Of course when its posted the poster must include in the title of the clip the name of the classic/show/opera tune. In my opinion, youtube is probably the most comprehensive database of “clips on demand” of Hollie that we have available to us at the present time.

    DaveH

  • Carmen says:

I wasn’t entirely sure what to chose. I first heard a clip of Hollie singing one morning during her interview on the Today show before school. When I got home I looked her up on YouTube to see the full performance, and I couldn’t believe my ears!

  • Haselmaus says:

As I saw the Edelweiss 2nd, song first, I thought by the first song “I couldn’t dance all night” that she has planned the singing, and understood “cannot dance that night”, and that was because she wanted to sing.
And can the sentency the “icebergly in your eyes” comment, not also sound like “your eyes brillily, (brillieren), glänzen, sprühen Funken, they tell me that you can more than that.
